For our directed study, I decided to work with Joyce and create an interactive narrative game, I would design some of the characters and environments, and she would design the rest and create a 3d model of one of these.
Our game design was a simple searching game where the player took control of a little boy that was blind in one eye, but could see demons (representing the 7 deadly sins) through this blind eye. The aim of the game is to find these demons hidden in people, once the player thinks they have found the demon, they switch to looking through the "bad" eye. If there is a demon where they guessed, they win, if not, the person they looked at will dissappear and the player will lose.
These are some concept sketches for the demons, we wanted them to be simple black and white and similar, but still establish different personalitys.My idea was that they would have similar bodys, but different horns,tails, head shapes and markings.
This was the design I did for the little boy, we wanted him to be quite young, about 10 years of age. The overall theme was going to be similar to Coraline and Tim Burtons, where they are for children, but a bit creepy and dark.
