For our second project we were required to create a website to portray our art work and chosen choice of specialism. To start this project I looked at websites of other concept artists and illustrators I like.
I like the simplicity of this website, with the different images linking to different sections.
I like that the gallery is the first thing you see when entering the site, immidiatley you get what you are looking for and can scan the page quickly to see any images you may wish to get a closer look at, rather than trawling through lots of images.
I like the different layout of this, with all the links in a nice panel on the left, however, I felt there are too many links to select and no thumbnail system means you have to look through everything to find something you may like. The side scrolling also makes it a bit harder in comparison to downward scrolling.
I really liked the layout of the site, similar to jaspers, lots of thumnail images show off all of her work at the same time, making it easy to scan, also, holding the mouse over any of the thumbnails makes the full image appear in the centre.
These are just some initial Ideas for my website, inspired by the artits websites above.
To create my website I used Wix, Wix is a free website builder which allows me to customize and create my own website without needing the knowledge of coding or paying for my own domain. I started by chosing a website template that I liked, I then edited the look (colour schemes, background images etc) and adding the different pages I wanted.
This is a screen shot of my gallery page, I wanted this to be the first page viewers see because this will be the main focus point of the site. I divided the page into 3 headings, Characters and Environments because this is what I have been focusing on over the past year, and look to develop into. I also added a page for personal work to show I the sort of art I do in my spare time.
I also have an "About" page, which just says a little bit about me becuase I noticed a lot of the other artists I looked at also had this somewhere on their site.
This is a screen shot of my page for my showreel, although all of the work in the showreel is in my gallery, it gives a brief overview of what I do for people who do not wish to, or have time, to look through my whole gallery.
Finally, I have a contact page which gives my email address as well as a link to my blog.
Here is a link to my final website http://www.wix.com/michellemarham/art-portfolio
To create my showreel, I used After Effects and included my character and environment art from this current project (BA6) as well as character designs from previous projects. This is the final video.
